The first forward fuselage of the Comac C919 narrowbody has rolled off the production line.
The part, made of aluminium-lithium alloy, is produced by Jiangxi Hongdu Aviation Industry.
It will undergo various tests and certification before being delivered to Chinese airframer Comac, says the AVIC subsidiary.
In March, AVIC Aircraft completed the first wing to mid fuselage join for the in-development C919. The section is undergoing various structural tests to verify the strength, fatigue and damage tolerance of the aircraft structure. Once verified, the parts can then go into production.
AVIC Aircraft is responsible for the manufacture of the narrowbody’s outer wing box, mid fuselage and also their assembly. Jiangxi Hongdu meanwhile is supplying the forward and aft fuselage sections of the aircraft.
Comac is working towards a maiden flight of the C919 at the end of 2015.
