July traffic up at Heathrow, down at Stansted: BAA

UK airports operator BAA has reported a 2.5% increase in July passenger traffic at London Heathrow, while traffic for the month at London Stansted declined 7.2%.

Passenger numbers at Stansted - which BAA has been ordered to sell by UK competition regulators - dropped to 1.9 million. Heathrow traffic, meanwhile, rose to 6.9 million.

In Scotland, passenger traffic at Edinburgh Airport grew 3.3% to 992,500 while numbers at Glasgow Airport increased by 0.5% to 793,200. BAA has also been ordered to sell either Glasgow or Edinburgh.

Total passenger traffic across all of BAA's UK airports increased by 0.8% to 11 million in July. Air transport movements dropped 1.8% and cargo was down 2.3%.

North America was the strongest performing market from BAA airports, while domestic traffic fell 7.2%. This included a 13.3% decline in domestic traffic at London Heathrow.
