Leasing company Kahala Aviation is to convert a third Boeing 737-400 to freighter configuration with Aeronautical Engineers (AEI).

The lessor signed a two-aircraft firm deal with Florida-based conversion specialist AEI in April, taking two options.

AEI redelivered the first 737-400SF 11-pallet conversion to Kahala in October.

The second aircraft is due to be delivered in December.

The third is a high-gross-weight 737-400 (MSN 25372) built in 1992. It will be undergoing freighter conversion at AEI's authorised conversion centre in Dothan, Alabama, and will be available for lease in April 2014.

"With this new facility now hitting its stride, it will not be long before we convert our remaining and new option aircraft into firm orders," says Kahala's chief aircraft trader Mark Thatcher.
