Kalitta Air has filed an application to codeshare with Japan Air Lines on its all-cargo flights between Honolulu and Los Angeles, according to a new US Department of Transportation filing.

As part of the agreement, Michigan-based Kalitta would operate five all-cargo frequencies per week with its Boeing 747-200 freighter aircraft. Kalitta already operates the routes under its own name, and Kalitta and JAL would each use their designator codes on the flights.

Kalitta says it would see higher cargo load factors through the potential codeshare, and notes that JAL would be able to further its business presence in the US with the deal, according to the filing.
