KLIA passenger traffic up 20% in March

Passenger traffic at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) rose 20% to 2.8 million in March, driven by strong growth in the international sector.

International passenger traffic grew 27% to 1.9 million and domestic passenger traffic increased 6% to 860,404, says national airports operator Malaysia Airports Holdings (MAHB).

Total aircraft movements at KLIA rose 10% to 20,288. International aircraft movements grew 10% to 12,865 while domestic aircraft movements rose 10% to 7,423.

The total amount of cargo handled by KLIA rose 34% to 60,701t. International cargo movements grew 36% to 55,631t, and domestic cargo movements increased 19% to 5,070t, says MAHB.

At the airport operator's 38 other airports, total passenger traffic grew 15% to two million.

International passenger traffic was up 35% to 339,251 and domestic passenger traffic rose 12% to 1.6 million.

Aircraft movements at the 38 airports grew 13% to 27,993. International aircraft movements were up 22% to 3,892 and domestic aircraft movements rose 12% to 24,101.

The total amount of cargo handled by the airports rose 17% to 21.302t. International cargo movements were up 16% to 11,747t and domestic cargo movements rose 17% to 9,556t, says MAHB.
