Kuala Lumpur passenger traffic up 16% in April

Malaysia's main gateway Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has posted a 16% growth in passenger traffic to 2.6 million in April.

International passenger numbers rose 21% year-on-year to 1.9 million, while domestic passenger numbers inched up 5% to 792,020, says airports operator Malaysia Airports Holdings (MAHB).

Aircraft movements at KLIA grew 7% from a year ago to 19,632, adds MAHB. International aircraft movements increased 8% to 12,491, and domestic aircraft movements rose 7% to 7,141.

Total cargo tonnage handled by the airport rose 31% to 56,513t. International cargo movements surged 30% to 51,431t, and domestic cargo movements rose 34% to 5,081t, says MAHB.

At the airport operator's 38 other airports, total passenger traffic rose 12% to 1.8 million. International passenger traffic grew 39% to 328,133 and domestic passenger traffic increased 8% to 1.5 million.

Aircraft movements at the 38 airports grew 12% to 27,605. International aircraft movements rose 24% to 3,866 and domestic aircraft movements increased 10% to 23,739.

Total cargo movements at the airports grew 20% to 21,099t, says MAHB. International cargo movements rose 22% to 12,938t and domestic cargo movements increased 16% to 8,161t.
