Kuala Lumpur traffic up 20% in January

Passenger traffic at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) grew 20% to 2.6 million in January, boosted by double-digit growth in the international sector.

International passenger numbers jumped 26% to 1.8 million, while domestic passenger numbers rose 7% to 781,474, says national airports operator Malaysia Airports Holdings (MAHB).

Total cargo movements at Malaysia's main gateway rose 28% to 50,300t, it adds.

International cargo movements grew 31% to 45,800t, and domestic cargo movements increased 10% to 4,500t, says MAHB.

Aircraft movements at KLIA rose 7% to 19,968. International aircraft movements rose 6.2% to 12,527 and domestic aircraft movements were up 9% to 7,441, adds the airport operator.

At MAHB's 38 other airports, total passenger movements grew 9% to 1.8 million. International passenger movements increased 25% to 317,051, while domestic passenger movements grew 6% to 1.4 million, says MAHB.

Cargo movements at the other airports increased 5.6% to 18,700t, while total aircraft movements grew 11% to 27,583, adds the airport operator.
