Kuwait’s civil aviation administration has awarded an air operator’s certificate (AOC) to start-up carrier Wataniya Airways, the passenger airline which intends to begin operations early next year.

The carrier will initially use two Airbus A320 aircraft on services to destinations south and west of the emirate.

Wataniya Airways received the AOC from civil aviation administration president Fawaz Al-Farah. The carrier’s chairman, Abdulsalam Al-Bahar, says that securing the AOC is a “highly important development” for the company.

Kuwaiti start-up freight carrier LoadAir, the third new operator in the country following Wataniya and Jazeera Airways, has also just obtained its AOC.
