Lan Airlines is in talks
with the US DOT to use its group branding and ‘LA’ designator code in all advertising,
sales and operations for US
Speaking today at the
Latin American airline CEO conference in Miami, DOT under secretary of transportation
Jeffrey Shane said the airline group - which owns a number of South American carrier’s
including Lan Chile, Lan Ecuador and Lan Peru as well as startup Lan Argentina -
is seeking the authorization to allow for more effective operations, and to
help create a unified brand awareness in the US.
granted, will be modeled on a recently approved deal between the DOT to the Central
America’s Taca group, which has also asked for permission to
operate into the USA
under a sole brand and single ‘TA’ designator code.
Taca International is
headquartered in El Salvador.
International subsidiaries include Guatemala’s
Aviateca, Costa Rica’s
NICA, Taca Honduras
and Taca Peru.
