Chile's LAN operated its first Boeing 787 revenue flight today, with a round-trip between Santiago and Buenos Aires.
Flight LA 455 departed at 10:20 local time with the maximum capacity of 176 passengers on board, says the Oneworld carrier.
The aircraft returned later today to Santiago from Buenos Aires, and landed at 16:53. LAN plans to operate the 787 22 times weekly on the Santiago-Buenos Aires route, and will gradually begin operating the new aircraft type on its routes to Los Angeles, Lima, Madrid and Frankfurt over its first year of 787 operations.
The airline has said Santiago-Lima will be the second route to be operated with the 787, followed by Santiago-Lima-Los Angeles.
LAN received its first 787-8 on 31 August, becoming the fourth airline in the world to operate the new aircraft. It has orders for 32 787s, comprising 22 787-8s and 10 -9s.
