Lease Corporation International (LCI) has placed two new medium twin AW139 helicopters with Malaysian offshore transportation provider Weststar Aviation Services under a long-term lease.

The AW139s, which were delivered this week, will initially be operated under contract to Tullow Oil and used to support offshore operations off the west coast of Africa for subsidiary Tullow Mauritania as part of a M$500 million ($162 million) four-year contract.

"LCI were able to respond rapidly to our needs and give us access to the right technology on terms that suited this offshore deployment," says Weststar Aviation Services chief executive officer Tan Sri Muhammad Ismail.

The aircraft are additional to the order announced by LCI in 2012 valued at approximately $400 million for new AgustaWestland AW139, AW169 and AW189 helicopters, deliveries of which are already in progress. LCI's helicopter fleet now exceeds 40 either delivered or on order, says LCI.
