Lufthansa Technik’s logistics arm has selected Deutsche Post subsidiary DHL as transport provider for transatlantic shipments.
Air and sea freight specialist DHL Global Forwarding is taking over the transport of spare parts and tools both for regular and ad-hoc AOG shipments between Germany, Canada, the USA, and Puerto Rico, where LHT is building a maintenance hangar for narrowbodies.
The contract with Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services is effective immediately and will cover around 25,000 shipments with a total weight of 550t a year, says DHL.
Aside from delivering equipment to the MRO provider’s warehouses, DHL says it will also organise the transport of “time-critical” shipments.
The two parties’ IT systems will be integrated to allow optimal material-flow management, and so that LHT’s logistics division can monitor progress of shipments.
Lufthansa’s cargo arm and DHL Express jointly own the Leipzig-based air freight venture AeroLogic.
