German MRO group Lufthansa Technik (LHT) is expanding its component maintenance joint venture with Beijing Kailan Aviation Technology in Shenzhen, China.

The facility at Bao'An International airport will be doubled in size to nearly 15,000m² (161,500ft²) to create additional workshop and warehouse capacity.

This is to be used to expand support for engine parts, component repairs and airframe structural component work, says Bernd Riggers, chief executive for Lufthansa Technik Shenzhen (LTS).

A second autoclave will be installed as part of the expansion to cater for increasing demand for support for composite airframe structures, the MRO provider says.

LTS employs around 300 staff members. But LHT has not specified whether the workforce will be increased with the facility enlargement.
