Lufthansa Technik wants to market its know-how in process optimisation and corporate transformation through a newly formed joint venture with US-headquartered management consultancy McKinsey & Company.
The name of the Hamburg-based venture has not yet been determined, but operations are due to begin before the end of June contingent on approval by anti-trust authorities.
August Wilhelm Henningsen, LHT's chief executive, says that the MRO provider has developed a broad range of experience in streamlining complex industrial processes, having introduced lean manufacturing initiatives seven years ago.
LHT says that it has also gathered experience by supporting customer airlines and helping their production and service processes.
McKinsey will strengthen the venture through its expertise in managing projects and process improvement programmes in other areas, says Henningsen.
The new consultancy venture will focus on clients in the airline and MRO industries, in addition to other non-related sectors.
The launch customers are likely to be within the Lufthansa Group, says Henningsen, as the partners have not yet promoted the venture significantly.
