Benghazi Airport in Libya has been closed as a result of ongoing civil unrest in the North African country.

Royal Jordanian Airlines confirms that the airport closed on 18 February, but says it is prepared to reinstate its twice-weekly Amman-Benghazi route "as soon as it reopens".

The carrier is continuing to operate its five-weekly service to Tripoli, and has upped capacity on today's flight to an Airbus A330 "to facilitate the return of Jordanians to the Kingdom as soon as possible".

Royal Jordanian normally operates its Tripoli flights with Airbus A319s and A321s.
