Libyan Airlines has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with OnAir to install the Airbus/SITA joint venture's in-flight mobile connectivity services on its new fleet of seven Airbus A320 aircraft.

The Tripoli-based carrier, in a statement running on the Arab Air Carriers Organization's (AACA) web site, says it is the first operator in Africa to announce plans to offer passengers in-flight connectivity.

Passengers will be able to use their own mobile phones or Blackberry-type devices to make and receive phone calls, send and receive text messages and emails, and access the Internet.

Libyan expects delivery of the aircraft in 2010 and will operate them on routes to Europe, Middle East and North Africa.
