Indonesia's Lion Air has signed an initial commitment to order five Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, with a combined book value of $968 million.

The aircraft will be deployed on the route network of Lion Air's newly launched premium subsidiary Batik Air, Boeing says in a statement.

The Indonesian carrier had previously hinted at its appetite for a widebody order, saying the 787 and the Airbus A330 were probable candidates.
