Lion Group is adding an airline catering business to its stable, with the establishment of Lion Boga.
In response to queries made by Flightglobal, Lion confirmed that Lion Boga will begin operations in September, providing catering services out of Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International airport.
As most of the support services such as aircraft maintenance and ground handling are being done in-house, having the catering business will “improve efficiency.” Batik Air and Lion Air will be Lion Boga's first customers, says Lion Air’s corporate secretary Ade Simanjuntak.
Expanding the catering service to other airports such as Surabaya is in the pipeline, although she was unable to provide a timeline.
In airports where Lion Boga does not have a presence, the two carriers will continue to use other caterers, Simanjuntak adds.
Lion Group is the parent company of Batik Air, Lion Air and Wings Air. It also owns stake in overseas joint ventures Malaysia-based Malindo Air and Thai Lion Air.
