The board of Litton Industries has elected Michael Brown as the company's new chairman and Harry Halamandaris as executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Brown is already president and CEO of Woodland Hills, California-based Litton, and will succeed 65-year old John Leonis as chairman. Leonis is retiring, but will remain a Litton board member.
Brown's election fulfils a previously announced management-succession plan that recognised Leonis' required retirement under Litton Industries' employment policy.
Leonis was named Litton's president and CEO in 1994 following the spin-off of Western Atlas, and was elected chairman in 1995.
Brown joined Litton in 1968 as a divisional marketing manager, and rose through the ranks to become executive vice president and chief operating officer in 1995.
Halamandaris joined Litton in 1995 after serving as a vice president and group executive with Kaiser Aerospace and Electronics on the other side of Los Angeles at Van Nuys.
His most recent position with Litton Industries has been senior vice president and group executive for the company's Electronic Warfare Group and for strategic business development.
