Polish flag carrier LOT will for a second time wet-lease a Boeing 787 to Finnair next month, having previously done so from December 2013 into January.
As before, the 787 will be deployed on Finnair’s Helsinki-New York JFK route, crewed by LOT pilots and cabin attendants. The deal covers the period 1 to 16 July, during which a Finnair Airbus A330 will be “undergoing an extra maintenance break”, says LOT.
Operating chief Ewa Kolowiecka says the Warsaw-based airline is unable to open any new routes due to the “ongoing restructuring process in the European Commission” – which is investigating whether aid LOT received was compliant with EU state-aid rules.
“We are constantly searching for new opportunities to optimise our long-distance fleet,” says Kolowiecka. “Leasing one of our Dreamliners to Finnair is a part of the restructuring-plan implementation, submitted to the Commission a year ago.”
