The training arm of MRO provider Lufthansa Technik has been cleared to conduct course exams online.
Germany's civil aviation authority LBA has approved Lufthansa Technical Training (LTT) to undertake internet-based exams for aircraft maintenance courses at its campuses in Hamburg and Frankfurt.
Implementing the online examination procedure was highly complex, says LTT, particularly regarding the validation process through the regulator.
That process needed to be secured against potential issues such as IT system failures during an exam or validation of possible incorrect data entries.
But Holger Beck, LTT's chief commercial officer, says that as well as reducing costs the online procedure is efficient and user-friendly, and it "largely eliminates human error".
