Lufthansa Cargo intends to deploy its new Boeing 777 freighters on services to greater China, Japan and South Korea.

The carrier will take delivery of the five 777Fs it has on order between end 2013 and 2015, Helge Krueger-Lorenzen, its vice president for Asia-Pacific said at a press briefing in Singapore.

"These will be additional capacity. We're not yet at the point where we want to replace our Boeing MD-11 freighters," he said, adding that those aircraft have a 20% lower fuel burn per freight tonne kilometre compared with other freighters.

It has not made a decision as to whether the aircraft will be operated by Lufthansa Cargo or its AeroLogic joint venture with DHL Express.

Lufthansa Cargo operates a fleet of 18 MD-11s.
