Lufthansa Group passenger numbers up 0.8% in May

Lufthansa Group carried 9.4 million passengers in May, marking an increase of 0.8% year-on-year.

The group's passenger traffic grew 4%, against a capacity increase of 3.4%. Load factor grew 0.4 percentage points to 78.2%.

Cargo load factor increased 0.3 percentage points to 67%.

Lufthansa German Airlines' traffic increased 4.5%, while capacity grew 4.2%. Load factor rose 0.2 percentage points to 77.5%, while the total passenger numbers was up 0.9%, at 6.9 million.

Swiss International Air Lines grew its load factor 1.1 percentage points to 82.8% and increased capacity 4.1%. Traffic grew 5.5% growth, and passenger numbers totalled 1.47 million, up 3.6%.

Austrian Airlines' capacity declined 4.1% and traffic fell 3.6%. This resulted in load factor improving 0.4 percentage points to 75.4%. Passenger numbers dropped 3.6% to 999,000.

Lufthansa Cargo carried 144,000t of freight and mail, a decline of 2.2%. Cargo capacity reduced 3.1% and traffic 0.8%.
