Lufthansa Group traffic increases by 0.8% in October

Traffic at Lufthansa Group increased 0.8% year-on-year in October, against a capacity reduction of 0.8%.

Load factor was up 1.3 percentage points to 79%, while the total number of passengers carried by the group rose 2.7% to 9.38 million.

Group cargo load factor increased by 0.3 percentage points to 66.5%.

Traffic on European routes rose by 3.9% against a 2.6% capacity hike. Load factor increased by 0.9 percentage points to 74.1%.

Capacity was cut sharply by 4.6% on American routes, against a traffic decline of 1%. This resulted in a 3.1 percentage point improvement of load factor to 84.9%.

On Middle East and African routes, the load factor also increased by 2.4 percentage points to 74%.

In the Asia-Pacific region capacity was reduced by 1.6% while traffic declined by 2.8%, resulting in a 1 percentage point fall in load factor.

Lufthansa Passenger Airlines and Swiss International Air Lines both improved their load factors by 1 percentage point - to 77.9% and 83.8% respectively.

Austrian Airlines saw a 10.5% capacity reduction against a 6% fall in traffic. This resulted in a 3.8 percentage point rise in load factor to 78.9%.

Lufthansa Cargo capacity fell 10.9% against a 10.1% reduction in sales.
