Lufthansa passenger numbers up despite fewer flights in June

Lufthansa's passenger airline group operated fewer flights last month than in June 2012 - but passenger numbers, capacity and load factor all increased.

Passenger numbers rose 2% to 9.8 million, while capacity grew 2.5% to 23.7 million available seat-kilometres. But the number of flights fell 3.6% to just under 91,000.

Load factor was up 0.8 percentage points, at 82.6%.

Lufthansa and its low-cost subsidiary Germanwings boosted capacity 3.3%, while load factor increased 0.7 percentage points to 82.1%.

Swiss International Air Lines added 1.3% to capacity, and its load factor rose 1.1 percentage points to 86.6%.

But Austrian Airlines' cut capacity 2%. Load factor kinked up 0.5 percentage points to 79.3%.

Lufthansa group capacity was mainly increased on routes to the Americas, up 7.5%, and to Asia-Pacific, up 4%. There were cuts of 1.3% within the European network and 2.3% to Africa and the Middle East.
