Lufthansa Systems will be deploying an updated electronic flight bag (EFB) for Lufthansa.

The new EFBs will use the Windows 8 operating system, which Lufthansa Systems says will make them faster and more user-friendly. Each pilot will use the EFBs on their individual laptops, which totals upwards of approximately 5,000 units.

Lufthansa Systems says the project to upgrade the EFBs will be completed in 2014.

Lufthansa will continue to use the flight bags in a class II configuration. Included in the EFB are the Lido/eRouteManual digital navigation charts, a document management tool and a folder with flight operations data. New data and automatic updates can be pushed to the EFBs from the ground.
