Monarch Aircraft Engineering (MAEL) has started construction work on its greenfield maintenance base at Birmingham airport.

The MRO provider revealed that it broke ground for the hangar on 11 January, with the base expected to become fully operational by the end of 2013.

The 10,200m² (110,000ft²) facility will be able to accommodate two Boeing 777-300ERs and will create up to 300 jobs, MAEL says.
