Malaysia Airlines’ passenger traffic down 6% in September

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has posted a 6% fall in RPKs for September.

Its domestic RPKs rose by 13.1%, while its international RPKs fell by 7.8%, says the airline. The carrier's total passenger numbers decreased by 1% to 1.07 million, while its domestic passenger numbers climbed by 7.2% to 394,000 and international passenger numbers fell by 5.2% to 677,000.

The airline's overall capacity, as measured in ASKs, declined by 3.1%. Domestic capacity grew by 12.7% and international capacity decreased by 4.7%.

The airline's overall passenger load factor fell by 2.4 percentage points to 75.1%. The domestic passenger load factor increased by 0.3 percentage points to 73% and the international passenger load factor fell by 2.6 percentage points to 75.4%.

On the cargo front, MAS' freight traffic in load tonne kilometres rose by 46.4%. MAS' cargo capacity as measured in capacity tonne kilometres grew by 46.5%.

The airline's freight load factor remained flat at 66.7%.
