Malaysia Airlines passenger traffic down by 8.3% in June

Malaysia Airlines' (MAS) passenger traffic, as measured in RPKs, declined by 8.3% in June as compared with the same period in 2011.

The carrier's domestic RPKs increased by 5.5%, while its international RPKs fell by 9.9%.

The total number of passengers carried by the airline declined by 4.6% to 1.13 million. Its domestic number of passengers carried rose by 5% to 448,000, while its international passenger numbers fell by 10% to 683,000.

Its overall passenger capacity, as measured in ASKs, declined by 10%, with domestic capacity falling by 5.2% and international capacity falling by 10.5%.

The airline's total passenger load factor grew by 1.4 percentage points to 77.4%. Its domestic passenger load factor grew by 7.9 percentage points to 78.5% while its international passenger load factor rose by 0.6 percentage points to 77.2%.

On the cargo front, MAS' freight traffic in load tonne kilometres grew by 4.7%, while its capacity grew by 5.7% in capacity tonne kilometres.

The airline's freight load factor was at 68.9%, down by 0.6 percentage points.
