Malaysia Airlines traffic up by 0.1% in August

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has posted a 0.1% growth in RPKs in August this year, the carrier said in a statement.

The carrier's domestic RPKs dropped by 4.1%, while its international RPKs rose by 0.5%, the airline said.

The total number of passengers carried by MAS declined by 0.5% to 1.05 million. The airline's domestic passenger numbers decreased by 3.1% to 333,000 and international passenger numbers grew by 0.7% to 710,000.

Its overall capacity, measured in ASKs, rose by 6.8%. The airline's domestic capacity declined by 2%, while its international capacity increased by 7.8%, the statement showed.

The airline's passenger load factor fell by 4.9 percentage points to 71.9%. Its domestic passenger load factor was down by 1.4 percentage points to 61.7%, while its international passenger load factor declined by 5.4 percentage points to 72.9%.

On the cargo front, MAS' freight traffic in load tonne kilometres fell by 19.3% against a 12.5% decline in capacity.

The airline's freight load factor for August was recorded at 66.8%, down 5.6 percentage points, year on year.
