Malaysia’s KLIA passenger numbers up 14% in March

Kuala Lumpur International Airport's (KLIA) passenger movements increased by 14% to 3.86 million in March compared with the same month a year ago.

Its international passenger numbers rose by 16% year on year.

Passenger movements at KLIA's main terminal rose by 18% to 2 million, while total passengers at KLIA's low-cost carrier terminal grew by 11% to 1.82 million.

At Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad's (MAHB) other airports, overall passenger movements rose by 7.1%, with international numbers up by 7% and domestic numbers up by 7.1%.

MAHB, meanwhile, recorded an increase of 11% in overall passenger movements to 6.3 million at all of its airports for March, while aircraft movements grew by 8.8% and cargo movements rose by 1.7% year on year.

For the quarter ended 31 March, KLIA's passenger movements grew by 11% year on year to 10.6 million. Passenger numbers at the main terminal increased by 15.3% to 5.6 million, while those at the LCC terminal grew by 6.8% to 5 million.

Passenger movements at all of MAHB's airports increased by 8.7%, compared with the first quarter of 2012. International and domestic passenger movements increased by 12% and 5.4% respectively.

Tota aircraft movements at all of MAHB's airports rose by 7.3% for the quarter, while cargo movements rose by 1.7%.
