Passenger traffic at Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport continued to grow in the first quarter of 2010 due to the Easter holidays and the launch of new services.
Overall passenger traffic at Tullamarine grew 8% to 6.7 million, says operator Melbourne Airport. Domestic traffic was up 5% to 5.2 million while international traffic was 16% higher at 1.5 million.
"It has been a busy quarter, largely attributed to Easter, international students arriving for the beginning of the university year and increased services from our airlines. Qantas launched an A380 service on the popular London-Melbourne route, V Australia launched services to Johannesburg, Tiger Airways to Brisbane and Jetstar increased services to Cairns," says CEO Chris Woodruff.
"In addition to this, we had a number of positive announcements this quarter - AirAsia X will be doubling services from Melbourne in July, Jetstar will commence Brisbane services and Tiger will recommence Darwin service."
