UK ground services company Menzies Aviation has boosted its presence in the Scandinavian market by acquiring Swedish freight handler Malmo Main Air Cargo.

The UK firm has acquired the entire share capital of Malmo Main Air Cargo, which provides cargo handling and trucking services at Malmo Sturup Airport. It did not disclose a purchase price for the handling firm, which reported gross assets of £2.8 million ($5.3 million) for 2005.

Parent company John Menzies’ chief executive, Patrick Macdonald, says: “Menzies Aviation has for some time been keen to expand its operations into the Scandinavian market. The acquisition of Malmo Main Air Cargo provides a strong platform from which to grow.”

Malmo Main Air Cargo was acquired from existing shareholder companies Genco Holding, which had 70%, JCS Global Trading with 10% and APL Holding, which had 20% – firms owned by Paul Jarlsbro, Jan Stachowicz and Axel Loecken.
