Flight attendants at Midwest Express Airlines are protesting what they say is the company’s refusal to move forward with contract talks.

Represented by the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA), the carrier’s flight attendants will picket at Milwaukee General Mitchell International Airport and Omaha Eppley Field on 1 April.

“Instead of working toward a compromise on issues, the company is backpedaling, replacing its original proposals with weaker secondary proposals,” says the AFA.

The union claims management intends to “drastically slash sick leave and weaken the flight attendants' work rules”.

Federally mediated negotiations between the AFA and management began in January 2000.

Midwest Express was not immediately available for comment.
