Midwest Airlines on March
4 is to add regional jet service between its Milwaukee,
Wisconsin base and Duluth International Airport
328JET will be used to serve the route twice daily during the week and up to three
times over each weekend, the carrier says in a statement.
The city pair will be served
by Midwest subsidiary Skyway Airlines as Midwest
Connect. Duluth will be Midwest’s
Midwest says the expansion
is part of a 2007 growth strategy that also includes an upgraded regional jet service
between Milwaukee and St Louis, Missouri.
“The service expansion is
another part of Midwest’s comprehensive long-term business and strategic plans,
which include aggressive route expansion and equipment upgrades, as well as the
addition of at least six new destinations and as many as 12 new routes in 2007
- leading to a 15% increase in capacity in 2007,” notes Midwest.
“Projected future growth
averages 10% per year over the next three years at improving levels of
recently rejected an unsolicited takeover bid by AirTran
Airways, arguing that its future was better served by its own growth plan.
