Sri Lankan carrier Mihin Lanka is interested in leasing two additional narrowbody aircraft to bring its fleet to five aircraft.

A source familiar with the carrier's requirements says it has yet to decide whether it will lease more Airbus A320 family aircraft or Boeing 737s.

"It will be known within the month if the two new aircraft are coming by 2015," the source says.

The government owned-carrier operates three leased aircraft, Flightglobal's Ascend database shows. It leases one A320 and A321 from ILFC, and another A321 from Air Lease Corp.

The source adds that the leases for the ILFC aircraft will expire in 2016.

FlightMaps Analytics shows that Mihin Lanka serves eight destinations from Colombo. These include the Indian cities of Madurai and Trichy, the Indonesian cities of Medan and Jakarta, as well as Dhaka and Bangladesh.

In addition, it serves three destinations in the Persian Gulf: Dubai, Sharjah and Bahrain.
