MK Airlines 747 freighter crashes on take-off at Halifax

An MK Airlines Boeing 747-200 cargo aircraft has crashed after a failed take-off from Halifax International Airport in Canada.

In a brief statement, the airport says the aircraft was “taking off when it ran off the end of the runway”. Exact timing of the accident is not yet clear, but it occurred during the early hours of this morning.

The aircraft was bound for Zaragoza in Spain and had seven crew members onboard. While the UK-based cargo carrier is still awaiting firm details, it says it does not believe there are any survivors.

Firefighters and emergency personnel are on currently on site, and the airport has been closed following the accident.
