Andrew Swaffield is to take over from Iain Rawlinson as managing director of Monarch Airlines on 1 April.

He joins the UK leisure airline from Avios Group, where he has been managing director since 2006.

Under Swaffield's leadership, Avois launched a “single currency” customer loyal programme for IAG, parent to British Airways, Iberia and Vueling.

Swaffield has also worked for BA and Thomas Cook in the course of his career.

Interim responsibility for Monarch Group's airline operations was assumed by Rawlinson in November 2013, after Kevin George stepped down.

Rawlinson remains executive chairman of Monarch group. He says Swaffield's appointment “will help us build on the foundations laid by the successful turnaround of the Group’s performance over the last two years”, adding: “I very much look forward to working with Andrew and his team as we further develop our plans to renew our fleet and expand our airline network.”
