Commercial Jet's new 400,000ft2 (37,200m2) MRO facility in Dothan, Alabama will be the fourth authorised conversion centre for cargo specialist Aeronautical Engineers (AEI).

The facility will used for passenger-to-freighter conversions and maintenance of Boeing 737-300SF, 737-400SF and MD-80SF aircraft.

AEI expects the Dothan location to accommodate six lines of conversion work at full capacity. There are plans to induct three Boeing 737-400s in the second quarter. Capacity in 2014 is expected to total 24 737SF and MD-80SF conversions per year.

The former Pemco maintenance facility at Dothan regional airport will undergo a $12 million renovation in stages and include multiple hangars, backshop capabilities and apron space.

The renovation is set to be complete by October, but the MRO plans to start repairing aircraft at the facility as soon as May.

The Dothan facility will join existing AEI conversion centres in Miami, Jacksonville and Shanghai.
