Innovation by 3M continues to make life easier for aircraft operators around the world, and this week the St. Paul-based company is showing its new paint systems, tapes for flooring and a system for orbital sanding.

A 3M technician is at the convention to demonstrate the new process to repair 16 common paint defects that occur when refinishing and retouching aircraft exteriors. “3M Aerospace developed the paint defect repair process that produces exceptional, repeatable results in a short amount of time,” says Jeff Travis, marketing manager of aerospace and aircraft maintenance department.

Meanwhile the new flame-retardant, double-sided 9377 Tape is on show. It is used to replace carpet and meets the standards for both the European RoHS and WEEE Directive.

3M’s first full line of air-powered finishing tools for orbital sanding maximize productivity, says Travis, “The lightweight, low-vibration tools work to prepare and restore aircraft surfaces, allowing maintenance crews to easily sand primers, fillers and paint.”
