Nepal Airlines has signed an agreement with China's state-owned AVIC International to buy two Xian Aircraft MA60s and four Harbin Y12 aircraft, an official says.
One MA60 and one Y12 will be financed via a grant from the Chinese government, says Suresh Acharya, joint secretary at the ministry of culture, tourism and civil aviation.
The Nepali and Chinese governments are also in negotiations for a loan for the remaining four aircraft, which will be guaranteed by the Chinese Export-Import bank.
Acharya could not provide the delivery schedules for the aircraft.
Nepal Airlines operates two Boeing 757-200 aircraft and five DHC-6 Twin Otters, according to Flightglobal's Ascend Online database.
The MA60 is a 60-seater turboprop aircraft, while the Y12 is a 17-seater.
