Reiner Winkler has been appointed as the next chief executive of MTU Aero Engines.

Finance chief Winkler, who succeeds Egon Behle, will take up his new position on 1 January 2014, and retain his current duties.

Behle has headed the German engine maker and MRO specialist for six years. "I do not want to extend my contract again, but like to attend to other tasks with regards to my personal life planning," he says, adding that his move will allow MTU "the opportunity to realign the board of management and to build up a younger team".

Michael Schreyoegg is to join the board on 1 July. Already responsible for the military programmes, he will at that point add commercial programmes to his brief.
