Nigeria's aviation minister has confirmed that a new national carrier is to be unveiled “soon”.
Stella Oduah-Ogiemwonyi says: "The new national carrier has not been unveiled yet but will soon be unveiled, and once this is done, its character and architecture will be known. We do not want to pre-empt the unveiling."
The ministry confirms only that the launch will be before year-end.
Oduah-Ogiemwonyi had previously indicated that the necessary procedures for the carrier's unveiling would be completed before the end of October.
Media reports have suggested that the carrier will be based on the assets of state-owned aviation company Aero Contractors, renamed Nigerian Eagle and unveiled by the nation's president Goodluck Jonathan on 1 December, but this is not confirmed by the ministry.
Nigeria has been without a national carrier since Air Nigeria folded in late 2012.
