GroupEAD and air navigation service provider Airways New Zealand are to form a joint venture to provide aeronautical information management services in the Asia-Pacific region.
The new entity, GroupEAD Asia-Pacific, will be headquartered in Wellington, New Zealand, and is expected to start operations early in 2014.
Spain-based GroupEAD, established 12 years ago, operates the European Aeronautic Information Services Database (EAD) on behalf of Eurocontrol, collecting, verifying and distributing global information to users. The new venture will use Airways NZ’s AIM staff, and continue to offer the procedure-design services currently provided within New Zealand and to many countries in the Pacific region.
Heinz-Michael Kraft, chief executive of GroupEAD, says there are plans to develop new services which take advantage of the capabilities of both organisations.
Ed Sims, who heads up Airways New Zealand, says: "As countries work through the transformation towards [Eurocontrol's] System Wide Information Management, we intend GroupEAD Asia-Pacific to be ready and able to assist wherever required."
