Nigerian carrier Arik Air has named Jason Holt as its new managing director, effective immediately.

The airline had previously been headed by Mike McTighe, but the airline recently stated that he was on an "extended leave of absence", without elaborating.

Holt, formerly the flight operations director at both BMed and Virgin Nigeria, has been working with Arik as an adviser, notably regarding the introduction of Airbus A340-500s.

Arik operates a fleet of 29 aircraft and serves several domestic and regional African routes, as well as flying long-haul to Johannesburg and London.
