ATR customer Nordic Aviation Capital has called on the airframer to produce a 90-seat turboprop.

After confirming an order for 15 ATR -600 series aircraft plus 25 options at the European Regions Airline Association’s 2013 general assembly in Salzburg, Austria, the Danish lessor's chairman Martin Møller said demand for a larger type is considerable.

ATR chief executive Filippo Bagnato says the decision is in the hands of the manufacturer’s shareholders Alenia Aermacchi and EADS, but he hopes it will be taken by year-end.

"I think the demand for the 90-seater is greater than Filippo is saying," says Møller. "I think he is understating it, which is the sensible thing to do."

Nordic Aviation's new order for up to 40 ATRs brings its firm orders for -600 series turboprops to 50 and its options to 80.
