Russian airframer Sukhoi is set to disclose details of a letter of intent for up to 65 Superjet 100 aircraft from a North American lessor.

The lessor, which declines to be identified ahead of a formal announcement at the Farnborough Air Show, describes the type as the "best 100-seater on the horizon".

It adds that marketing specialist Superjet International made a compelling technical and aftermarket case for the type against competing jets.

Sukhoi is officially acknowledging 101 firm orders for the Superjet 100 in its backlog, although it has tentative commitments from several other customers including Hungarian flag-carrier Malev.
