Scandinavian budget carrier Norwegian is to open a new base at Madrid Barajas next year, and operate six new European services from the Spanish capital.
Norwegian says it will open the base, its fifth in the country, in summer 2014.
It will operate new services to London, Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki, Hamburg and Warsaw.
Two Boeing 737-800s will be stationed at the base and the company will recruit 70 pilots and 140 cabin crew locally.
"It is strategically important for Norwegian to have a base in the Spanish capital in light of our presence in the Spanish market and not least, in term of our future plans,” says chief executive Bjørn Kjos.
Norwegian already has Spanish bases at Alicante, Malaga, Las Palmas and Tenerife.
