Norwegian will unveil plans later this week to start long-haul services from London Gatwick.

The low-cost carrier has scheduled a press briefing in London for 17 October, where chief executive Bjorn Kjos will reveal more details about the plans for “major long-haul routes” from the southern UK airport.

Norwegian operates a predominantly short-haul network with Boeing 737NGs but is gradually expanding long-haul services with a fleet of Boeing 787-8s. Initial destinations are Bangkok and New York JFK, which it serves from its Oslo base.

The airline currently operates a short-haul base at Gatwick, from where it serves some 15 destinations.
