Chairman of the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Deborah Hersman has dispatched a team led by air investigator Bill English to aid in the investigation of the crashed Lufthansa Cargo Boeing MD-11 freighter in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The aircraft, on a flight from Frankfurt today, suffered a hard landing and broke into two pieces.

NTSB says the team also includes representatives from FAA, Boeing and board aircraft systems specialists.
